API Integration Designer (Apigee, GCP)

API Integration Designer (Apigee, Google Cloud) — the person in this role will design and implement enterprise-grade API management solutions using Apigee on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This is a senior technical assignment for a demanding project; candidates must have proven hands-on experience with Apigee and be prepared to work on a schedule aligned with a Middle East client (Sunday–Thursday workweek; Friday off).

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement API management solutions using Apigee on GCP, ensuring security, scalability and high performance.
  • Create and maintain API proxies, policies and configurations according to enterprise requirements.
  • Collaborate with enterprise architects, developers and integration teams to integrate APIs with backend systems and external services.
  • Define, document and enforce API standards, governance guidelines and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize API performance, applying enterprise integration patterns and observability practices.
  • Support deployment, monitoring and lifecycle management of APIs in cloud environments.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with Apigee, including API proxy development, policy configuration, OAuth and JWT.
  • Solid practical experience with Google Cloud Platform services relevant to API management.
  • Strong understanding of RESTful API design, SOAP integration and API security standards (OAuth 2.0, mTLS).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control systems such as Git.
  • Proven ability to work independently and to communicate technical concepts effectively in English.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with other API management platforms (e.g., MuleSoft, Kong).
  • Knowledge of container technologies and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture and event-driven integration patterns.
  • Certifications in Apigee or Google Cloud Platform.
