Senior IT Analyst (banking sector)

Senior IT Analyst - the person in this role will join the downstream team within a Core Banking programme that is replacing legacy local systems with a core banking platform. The Senior IT Analyst will be responsible for eliciting, analysing and documenting business requirements as features and user stories, and for independently driving those requirements through to handover to development teams. The role requires rapid onboarding into a complex environment with multiple stakeholders and interdependencies.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to elicit and clarify requirements, ensuring alignment with programme objectives.
  • Translate business needs into detailed features, user stories and acceptance criteria suitable for development and testing.
  • Independently manage the requirements lifecycle from collection and documentation to handover and clarification during implementation.
  • Work across multiple teams and stakeholders to identify dependencies, risks and impacts to deliverables.
  • Contribute to data governance activities, including data mapping and validation to ensure consistent and accurate information flows.
  • Support reporting and CDW (corporate data warehouse) related initiatives by defining requirements and verifying delivered data outputs.
  • Use SQL or similar tools to validate data, troubleshoot issues and support solution testing.
  • Participate in programme forums, reviews and handover sessions to ensure traceability and quality of deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of professional experience in IT analysis, business analysis or a related role, with 5–10 years at senior analyst level.
  • Proven experience in the banking sector and in large-scale programmes of approximately 300+ employees or similar complexity.
  • Demonstrable experience with Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW) and reporting requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance principles and practical experience with data mapping.
  • Proficiency in SQL or equivalent data query tools for data validation and analysis.
  • Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to rapidly understand complex systems and to operate effectively in a matrixed environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Advantageous: prior experience with reporting design and development, and familiarity with Hadoop or similar big data platforms.
